Know where your food comes from

Enjoy this day of thanks. This day of gratitude for all you have. For your breath, for your body, for the water you drink and the food you eat and take a moment to consider where it comes from and ENJOY. Nourish yourself with vibrant foods and drink, a long walk and good company!

This piece was written by Gary Paul Nabhan, January 2007 and is something that was shared with me a few Thanksgivings ago by my friend Dani LaVoire, who continues to inspire me to dig in the dirt when possible and let the dishes sit, because connection is more important.

Know where your food has come from

by the very way it tastes:

its freshness telling you

how far it may have traveled,

the hint of mint in the cheese

suggesting what the goat has eaten,

the terroir of the wine

reminding you of the lime

in the stone you stand upon,

so that you can stand up

for the land that has offered it to you.
