I married a school teacher.

We met in the summer of 1996 and married in the fall of 2004. We have many shared values and priorities as a couple, but the one I will highlight right now is the spirit of adventure.

The spirit of adventure isn’t always in physical travel and jet setting. It’s oftentimes found seated on a cushion across the room from one another with our eyes closed. The space shared, but nothing needs to be said. It’s the journey inward.

The journey inward requires very little packing or preparation and is the easiest of journeys to embark on, on one hand. No boarding pass, no shuttle to the airport, no worries about 3oz toiletries or if we’ll be able to find filtered water.

The challenge is in slowing down long enough to sit, knowing the perks and benefits of such a journey. It’s so much about being willing to navigate the inner journeys of the most private dwellings of the heart and mind.

For years Dan and I meditated together sharing this pursuit simultaneously, many times knee to knee, side by side. Currently, our meditation schedules are a little different with an almost five-year-old vying for attention yet met with just as much, if not more amazement, wonder, and fruit of its endeavor.

Every relationship has twists and turns and new phases and cycles. I’ve found that continuing to circle forward to the values and priorities as our lives evolve has been the most fun. So as we embark on the next journey outside of the rhythm of our urban garden, daily dog walks, and the occasional weed whacking, we’ll be stepping one foot in front of the other on a summer of adventure.

I’ll be doing some photo documentation if you like to follow along, catch us on Facebook or Instagram for the occasional foodie shot, inspiring quote or ocean sunset. And next week I’ll share a few of our favorite travel tips and how we make keeping the greens flowing a reality while traveling.

If you aren’t traveling this summer, consider the inner journey a worthy and powerful approach so accessible all you need to do is prioritize it.

All my best,

-----
