Your work is love made visible. -Khalil Gibran

Do you ever have those days when you want to jump for joy?! Or sing from the top of your lungs? I’ve been feeling this way lately. I’ve been dancing around with excitement, grinning from ear to ear. I’ve got some super exciting projects in the works and have been collaborating with some phenomenal people all over the world. I come out of my office and am often teased about how much I love to work. I suppose, I’m really resonating with the classic Khalil Gibran quote, “your work is love made visible.”

I work from home and need an office. A space for creativity, visioning, planning, dreaming, executing and oftentimes meditating, stretching, bouncing, moving and learning. Over the years my idea of a “home office” has shifted dramatically. We bought our house thirteen years ago and at that time dedicated a whole room to storing papers, files, a computer and tv. That room has been repurposed many times over the years, but it’s current role is to hold the bursting love and playful spirit of a vibrant little boy. And we know that will evolve too.

When we moved into this house there was a 10×10 tool shed in the back and over the years it to has evolved. A few years later we had a close friend put up drywall and wood floors in exchange for living in it. Let’s just say, this was a real upgrade. It’s been a perfect  “guest room” for many visitors ever since (and a great storage shed at one point). Guests have really loved having their own space in the garden and still so close to the house.

When Miles was born, I christened Dan as the “Protector of the Shakti”. It meant he was in charge of protecting the high vibration of love, peace and groundedness for the mama and baby by having boundaries with visitors when necessary and keeping the energy in the house positive and supportive (especially those first few weeks). This is such a critical time in the energetic field of the baby and mama and when the Papa has a role, it’s really cool to watch what happens. This name stuck for at least the first 40 days postpartum and got some tration in the next phase of the “guest house” evolution. The once tool shed, gone man shed, gone tiny house is now best known as the “Shakti Shed”. Some people would proudly and simply refer to it as their office, but for me it’s my Shakti Shed. My power spot. I can “drop into” projects conversations and myself by walking in. There’s an intention set by having a sacred and special space and I LOVE it.

Shakti is a sanskrit word that basically is the “power of creativity” or “power of manifestation”.

I feel that power when I go to work everyday. I love to say I “get” to go to work instead of I “have” to go to work. Say both out loud and notice the energetic difference. This is a place I go to drop into a rhythm each day. Right now, each day is a little different because of all the fun projects I’m involved with. I’ve whittled down my books to the ones that spark joy, I’ve painted, got some comfy chairs, 2 whiteboards for brainstorming and a stand up desk and sit down option. I’ve got my meditation cushion, a yoga mat, art that inspires me, some essential oils and fresh air moving through. I oftentimes keep my door open for maximum airflow.

I’m currently in a powerful mode of creation. I haven’t always felt this giddy about work and life, so I’m basking in it right now. I feel like this sunflower, bursting with ideas. I relate this current phase to the habits and rhythms I’ve been cultivating over the past 4 years. There’s this cool pulsation between increased efficiency and maximum fluidity. I’ve found this true with my personal habits that benefit me physically, emotionally and mentally and now really feeling them in the professional realm get some traction. It’s super cool. The more of a daily work rhythm I drop into, the more spacious I feel. The more structured I am with my day, the more creativity flows through me. I no longer multitask. I used to think that was a skill that made me so productive at my last job, but I’ve spent the last year unlearning it and it’s paying off BIG time. I’m more focused, more intentional and I am so much more effective.

Think about where you go to really get things done. Do you have a power spot? The place you can simply arrive and the juices flow? I bet you have one. Walk around your house and your yard. Go test out a few spots and see by simply sitting in them. Receive. Find that place where you can lean in and let your vision, dreams and thoughts flow.
